Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,
5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.
6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.
11 The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;
12 And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.
13 And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.
14 And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.
15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
Here in this Bible text we are reading how God created woman from man. God saw that it is not good for Adam to be alone, so He gave him a helper. Continuing to read this text we can see that here is already established a ‘marriage’. Or to say it more precisely, here it is already said that it is natural for a man to leave his parents and choose his wife and be with her to become one flesh.
We can come to conclusion that man is not meant to be alone. God saw that man is lonely and that he is missing something, so He created a woman. He didn’t created another man for him but rather, he created a woman, a completely different being than him. A soft, gentle woman. That was all that Adam needed.
Does this means that woman was not a part of God’s plan but only later did He realized that it is not good for Adam to be alone and then He decided to create a woman?
No, I don’t think that is the case. Woman was in a plan from very beginning. God is perfect as a designer, engineer and a creator. His plan was from beginning to create a woman, but I think that this text is written this way in order to present one of the great mysteries of life. Man without a woman is not complete. Every man needs a woman (of course, there are some people who were created to live a celibate life), but when talking about an average human, we all need a woman. And of course, women need men as well. This text is trying to say that man cannot be alone. Sure, modern philosophy is different. Men are trying to be independent, they chase careers and success in this world. They do achieve some sort of strength and they become self-made, independent creatures. But something is missing in them. What is missing is a woman. And we are not talking about sex. Rich and successful men have a bunch of women around themselves. But these women are nothing else than cheap pleasure. Real need for intimacy is not present there. It is possible that God first created Adam and Eve only later just so that Adam can experience what is like to not have a woman and what it means to do have a woman next to you.
This text also reveals the perfect qualities of a woman. Woman was created as a helper. Adam didn’t really need so much a help from woman. He needed a companion, he needed a loyal friend. He needed someone to talk with, someone to laugh with, someone to be intimate with. And that should be a godly marriage. Man and woman are helping each other. They are raising family together, they are taking care of garden (in this example), it can be a land, house, apartment. But they are taking care of someone or somebody. They are one flesh with one goal and that goal is love and taking care of the world that God gave to us.
God didn’t created Eve with big butt and fake tits. He didn’t created her so that Adam can have sex with her. And God didn’t create for him Eve, Maria, Anne, Marine, Jasmine and etc. No, He created only Eve for him. One woman for him. And together they make one flesh. As we can read, men needs to leave their parents and they need to be with their women. So, once when Adam and Eve will have their children, those children will not stay forever with them, they need to find their own wife or husband.
Life in Eden was perfect. Adam and Eve were in nature taking care of garden, animals and plants. And that is a perfect life. You have a garden, you are surrounded with animals and plants and you have your wife or your husband. That is perfect life. No selfishness. You are one with the nature.
Adam didn’t have desires to be a world champion, to have big muscles, to build a big luxurious house. No, those desires were not needed in Eden. They were living completely natural life.
But lets go back to the part where we are reading that it was not good for man to be alone so God created a woman for him. That is one of biggest truths of this life. How many men were living selfish lives until they got married and they get their kids. Women and kids change men. Men start to live and care for somebody else instead of just his pleasures. Most men are lost and they don’t know what to do until they meet a good woman. They are just aimlessly wandering around, not creating anything in their lives until they meet a good woman. A good woman subconsciously forces them to change and to make something out of life. They force men to grow up and to take responsibility in life. We have also heard those stories that when wife passes away, very soon the husband will pass away because he is just lost without her.
I am not trying to make this sounds too pathethic where men are begging and crying for women, no. Not every woman is good woman. There are evil women. They will cheat on you, they will take all your money, they won’t be good mothers and they will eventually destroy you. But when you meet a good godly woman that is completely different story. And what is a good godly woman? As we have said before,…..
